Nissan Cube Trailer Hitch Installation Step By Step Guide

A step by step photo guide on installing a trailer hitch & wiring in a Nissan CUBE. DrawTite Draw Bar kit # 3593 for Nissan Cube.
Installation should take 2-4 hours total for a Novice, or 45 minutes to 1hr 30 minutes for a professional or backyard mechanic.

Recommended Tools:
Basic Socket Set (Sears Craftsmen 154piece socket set or larger is perfect)
1 Inch Drill Bit. We have them available for $20+4 shipping, otherwise generally available for $30-50 at your local hardware store.
Can of spray lube, such as silicone spray
Set of Car Ramps,
Flat Head & Phillips Screw Drivers.
Drill

Hitch Install Text Directions:
1: Lower Exhaust system at the rubber isolator, leaving the rubber isolator in place on the vehicle. Spraying lubricant on the metal hanger rod and the rubber isolator helps removal. Be careful not to allow muffler to fall.

2: Scrape Undercoating from the drivers Frame Rail. Clean Out undercoating from rearward weld nut being sure not to damage the threads.

3: Remove tie down bracket from passenger side. Keep the bolts, as they will be used later on in hitch installation.

4: Drill a 1"access hole in bottom of drivers frame rail only. Their is a existing smaller 1/2" hole, you should enlarge this.

5: Feed pull wire with spacer and carriage bolt into frame rail through the 1"Access hole and out the attachment hole.

6: Feed pull wire through he slot on the hitch brackets. Raise the hitch into position, being careful not to push the bolt back into the frame rail. Loosely attach fasteners on the drivers side. Raise passenger side into position on the outside of the frame rail. Install the 3 hex bolts that you removed in step 3. You may need to push or rock the hitch into position for easier fit.

7: Tighten all fasteners to the required torque specifications.

8: Reinstall Exhaust.

You may wish to use "removable" type lock tite on the threads. As the hitch is held on by only 5 bolts, you should otherwise check the tightness of the hitch frequently.

Wiring Kit Install Text:
1: Open rear tailgate. Pull out cargo tray and set aside. Temporarily remove threshold plate b removing the cargo clips.

2: Being careful not to damage clips, partially remove the lower interior trim panels on drivers side of the vehicle only.

3: At the center of the tail lamp assembly, remove two clips holding the plastic cover over the reflective name plate housing. Temporarily remove the reflective name plate housing, by using a screwdriver and turn the black square head so that it aligns with the holes.

4: Starting on the drivers side, using a 10mm socket, remove the bolt holding the drivers side lamp in place.

5: Gently rock the lamp in and out until the two clips, one in the middle and one on the other end of the tail lamp pop out of the vehicle. The lamps will come off when pulled in a direct rearward direction.

6: Repeat on the passenger side.

7: Once the tail lamps have been removed, locate two bolts in the plastic frame on each side where the tail lamps were removed and partially remove the plastic frame to gain access for routing the trailer wiring.

8: From inside of the cargo area on the drivers side of vehicle, behind partially removed trim panel, locate grommet on the rear surface of the cargo area. Unseat the grommet, Carefully slit the grommet as shown. Route the T-Connector ends through the hold and into the tail lamp pocket. Re-seat the grommet around the wires leaving the 4 flat and black converter box in the cargo area.

9: On the drivers side, using the T-Connector ends with the yellow wires, insert in between the vehicle connectors separated in step 5.

10: Route the T-Connector ends with green along the existing wiring to the passenger side. Connect in-between the vehicle connectors with the green wires.

11: Locate a suitable ground location near the T-Connectors black box. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area. Drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. (Do not drill into vehicle floor or bed. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.)
